Community Service
HealthPoint collaborates with several other community
and state non-profit organizations in order to help our
patients
get the best primary care medical services possible.
These other organizations include:
- American Cancer Society,
Mid-South Division – HealthPoint
Bracken County provides access to cancer
resources that include reference books, educational
videos,
free wigs
and breast prosthesis. The Cancer Society
center is open to the public and not limited
to HealthPoint
patients.
- Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Cincinnati – A
VA representative has weekly office hours
at HealthPoint’s
Pike Street Homeless Clinic, where our staff
works to connect patients who are veterans with
the services they are entitled
to through the VA. We were recently honored
by the VA for "being
a valuable resource to the VA and the
community in meeting the needs of the homeless
population."
- Cincinnati
Health Network – This
community health center in Cincinnati
receives federal funds
to provide
medical care to the homeless. Part
of those funds go to HealthPoint, and
we use them
to help support
our
Pike Street
Homeless Clinic.
- MedShare - We have participated
in the MedShare pharmacy program since April
2001,
which is offered
by Neighborhood
Health Care of Cincinnati, a non-profit community
health center. Through funding from the Health
Foundation of Greater
Cincinnati, MedShare offers patients with
no prescription drug insurance the opportunity
to
obtain medications for
co-payments that range from $5 to $20.
- Northern
Kentucky Health Department – On
our referral, health department staff
provide to our patients
nutrition
counseling, diabetic counseling,
one-time nurse home visit for prenatal patients,
and mammograms
(at local
hospitals).
- NorthKey Community Care – This
nonprofit mental health provider
has an office at
our Dixie Pike center
in Covington. This arrangement has
improved access for patients who need mental health
referrals.
- St. Elizabeth Medical Center – This
nearby hospital provides three OB/GYN physicians
to HealthPoint’s
obstetrics department. The department,
located at our Greenup Street site in Covington,
also is staffed by
a nurse practitioner.
This center is the only prenatal clinic
available
in Kenton County. St. Elizabeth physicians
and residents
deliver
our patients when they present at the
hospital. In 2001, 1,700 patients used
our OB services;
there were
580 births.
- School districts – HealthPoint
is the medical partner with four
local districts,
all within our
service area,
in school-based health centers. They
are Silver Grove, Erlanger-Elsmere, Southgate
and Bellevue.
- Kentucky State Health Department – The
state supplies vaccines to HealthPoint
through the Federal
Vaccine for
Children program.
- Kentucky Physicians Care – KPC
is a program organized by the State
of Kentucky for people at
or below 95% of
the federal poverty level. After
filling out a simple form, individuals are eligible
for one free medical
visit each year and one free specialist
visit each year
from physician
volunteers in the community.
Patients also can receive free but limited medications
listed on the KPC formulary.
