no longer accepting commercial insurance plans HealthPoint Family Care will not accept medical or dental commercial insurance (such as Anthem, Humana, etc.) after March 15, 2009. As a nonprofit, HealthPoint’s primary focus is providing care to low-income, uninsured Northern Kentuckians. HealthPoint welcomes Medicaid and Medicare-covered patients, and offers a sliding fee scale to uninsured patients based on their income. This change returns HealthPoint to its core mission as a safety net for people who have no other access to medical and dental care. If you are a commercially insured HealthPoint patient, the change does have a major impact on you. After March 15, HealthPoint will not send bills to commercial insurances or take commercial co-pays or discounts. If you choose to continue receiving medical or dental services at HealthPoint, you will have to pay standard fees for all services, including the office visit, medical and dental procedures, injections and vaccines at the time of your appointment. A medical office visit generally ranges from $75 to $150, depending on the complexity of the visit, or from $135 to $220 for well-child visits or annual check-ups, with additional charges for all vaccines and procedures. Dental fees may range from $65 and up. You will pay HealthPoint the full fee at the time of your visit. We will provide you a receipt with all codes and information you will need to fill out a claim form and send to your insurance. Your insurance company payment to you may be less
than the fees you paid to HealthPoint. No refunds or adjustments
will be made for insurance company allowances or discounts. At checkout, we will give you the receipt with the information you will need to send a bill to your insurance company. All dental fees must be paid in full at registration before receiving any services. HealthPoint will continue to bill if your primary insurance is Medicaid or Medicare, if that is the primary or first payer. There will not be a change in services to patients with Medicaid, Medicare, and patients who qualify based on income for HealthPoint’s sliding fee scale program. If you have Medicare primary and a commercial secondary, we will not bill your secondary. In many cases, Medicare will cross the claim over to your commercial payer and they will issue you a check. When this situation arises HealthPoint billing staff will be a resource to guide you on how to do so. If you have a commercial plan that is primary and Medicaid or Medicare is secondary, then HealthPoint will not do the billing to the commercial plan or to Medicare or Medicaid. Please contact your insurance company using the member services number on your insurance card or contact your employer Human Resources department to get additional information on how to file a claim to your insurance. Because of the large number of health insurance plans, HealthPoint staff do not have information on sending claims to each insurance carrier. If you choose to find a new medical or dental provider, you will need to provide the name and mailing address of your new provider and sign a records release form at any HealthPoint location. Your medical or dental records will be mailed to the provider on the release of information form within 30 days.
